We, as Chinese, or non-Chinese, do we really know about winter solstice?
我们都懂二十四节令鼓....
We all know about 24 seasons drums...isn't it??
二十四节令。。。指的是什么呢？
Well, what does that "24 seasons" mean??
二十四节令鼓是我们祖先的智慧，它们分别为：
A solar term is one of 24 points in traditional East Asian lunisolar calendars that matches a particular astronomical event or signifies some natural phenomenon.
立春、雨水、惊蛰、春分、清明、谷雨；
Start of spring, rain water, awakening of insects, vernal equinox, clear and bright, grain rain;
立夏、小满、芒种、夏至、小暑、大暑；
Start of summer, grain full, grain in ear, summer solstice, minor heat, major heat;
立秋、处暑、白露、秋分、寒露、霜降；
Start of autumn, limit of heat, white dew, autumnal equinox, cold dew, frost descent;
立冬、小雪、大雪、冬至、小寒和大寒。
Start of winter, minor snow, major snow, WINTER SOLSTICE, minor cold, major cold.
所谓的冬至，就是节气的其中一节！以下就是一些简介:

冬至，又稱「賀冬」、「冬節」，夏曆二十四節氣之一，傳統上冬至半月是喜慶氣氛濃重的節期。冬至日這一天，北半球黑夜最長，白晝最短，故又稱「長至 」（夜長至，或稱日短至）。冬至日的前夜稱為「冬至夜」。冬至日是數九寒天的第一天，俗諺「冬至交九」，從冬至日開始即進入「數九天」。古時冬至節氣是計算二十四節氣的起點。因冬至節以往是僅次於新年的重要節日，所以又俗稱「亞歲」。在民間廣泛流傳着「冬至大如年」的說法，意指冬至的禮俗如同過新年春節一樣隆重。冬至還有「新正」、「如正」、「喜冬」、「交冬」、「消寒節」、「一陽節」、「履長節」 等稱謂。
